Racism. Homophobia. Oppression. In a world fraught with animosity, it's not only comforting, but also important, to consider the moments when people come together.
When unanimous, few occasions have the power to demonstrate the unification of individuals, and families, more than weddings. Fewer still illustrate the vast diversity amongst human traditions while doing so.
For as long as couples have been tying the knot, the rites and customs of their cultures have been integral to how they are married. These rituals uphold tradition as time marches forth and families meld, and to this day serve as an ode to ancestors, origins and faith.
Indeed, a wedding ceremony, the clothing that you wear during it and the meal that you share afterwards will differ greatly depending on where in the world you are. However, what is common, no matter what culture, religion, and/or combination thereof, is that two people, and their families, come together to rejoice in their union.
Herein lays the beauty of weddings: they celebrate the unification of people against a rich tapestry of cultural traditions. What better way to appreciate the human spirit than through photographs that showcase the diverse and joyous celebrations of weddings around the world?
