IMPACT Coordinator

Selina Arias- Impact Coordinator

A little bit about you:

I am a 2nd generation, mixed race Chinese-American currently living on Nisenan land (Sacramento, California.) I love art, storytelling, and connecting with people and with the land.

A little bit about your role at PWB:
I will be volunteering as an Impact Coordinator to analyze the impact PWB has had on partner communities and photographers since 2012.

What are you most looking forward to in your role?
I am most looking forward to building relationships with communities, asking questions, and listening and learning, so we can be better co-creators as we grow together.

What are you most passionate about?
I’m still figuring out what this looks like on a day-to-day basis, but I am most passionate about connecting with the people I’m blessed to have in my life, and co-creating spaces for radical and collective healing.

Why is decolonizing photography/storytelling important to you?

Decolonizing photography and storytelling matters to me because it is the only path I see for us to address the root of so much pain in the world, both the pain we carry as individuals and as a collective. I don’t think that we can truly heal without addressing the root causes of what hurts us, and to do that, we need to speak truth to power, both in the narratives we tell ourselves and in the stories we share with one another.

How do your personal goals align with those of PWB?

Lately when I ask myself about my personal goals, I just think about the kind of ancestor I want to be. I want to be one who put everything I could into all of our liberation, so the generations to come can have as free and true an existence as we can create for them. I hope we can build this kind of world where we (people and the Earth) can be truly free, and that work starts at the root, with pulling back the veil and decolonizing the stories we tell. This brought me into alignment with PWB and the work I will be doing here with all of you.
