ABOUT THE CHARITY

Founded in 2009, this NGO’s mission is to collaborate with Indigenous communities in Canada to help them raise funds to represent their legal interests in the national legal sphere. This often involves helping Indigenous communities fight for land rights, water protection, and other forms of environmental stewardship, when in opposition with large corporate bodies (eg. oil companies) and government interests. Funds are raised through distributed networked fundraising — online 'crowdfunding' by supporters and by community events that cumulatively have raised millions of dollars to defend the rights of Indigenous people guaranteed by the Canadian constitution and in treaties (agreements between Indigenous nations and the nation of Canada).

PROJECT DETAILS

The focus will be documenting this NGO’s work based in Secwepcm Territory, near Kamloops, B.C.
