ABOUT our community PARTNER
Founded in 2009, this NGO’s mission is to collaborate with Indigenous communities in Canada to help them raise funds to represent their legal interests in the national legal sphere. This often involves helping Indigenous communities fight for land rights, water protection, and other forms of environmental stewardship, when in opposition with large corporate bodies (eg. oil companies) and government interests.
The focus will be documenting this NGO’s work based in Secwepcm Territory, near Kamloops, B.C. Work will be scheduled around the Western Mining Action Network conference which takes place on Secwepemc territory, Sept 27-29 th . The rest of the project will be focused on documenting issues surrounding environmental stewardship and protection, especially initiatives surrounding the Alberta Tar Sands project. The incumbent will document the impact of these issues on the Indigenous community and what they are doing to fight for their rights and for the land.
