ABOUT our community partner
Established in 2012, this organization works to ensure local communities and the environment benefit from the growing tourism of El Paredón, Guatemala. The organization provides education, enterprise and employment opportunities for the people of El Paredón, promotes local tourism and human and environmental well-being. The organization employ and train local people to provide tours and create artisan products, ensuring that the local community benefits from the growing tourism in the area.

Upon arrival to El Paredon, you will be introduced to the organization’s Executive Director and staff, visit several project sites (such as library, secondary school, organic garden and computer lab). You will also interview and take photos of the bracelet makers (part of the social enterprise program). The photos will be used for fundraising purposes, social media, annual reports, and other communications to motivate their existing supports and attract new supporters. Your images will also be shared by PWB to help support the work of the NGO and the PWB program.
Your job is to demonstrate the impact of the NGO through your storytelling and help convey to donors and grant programs the value of their financial support. Your images should tell a story that highlights experiences of community members and artisans and the NGO’s mission to promote sustainable communities.
Some knowledge of Spanish
·Proficient in photo-documentary/photojournalism (and videography)
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
Adaptable to new and different situations, flexible and patient
Storytelling - Must submit a minimum of one (1) original article of 600-800 words, written in third-person, upon completion of the project, to complement the images of this assignment.
