ABOUT THE PROJECT PARTNER
Established in 1998, this organization’s mission is to improve the lives of the indigenous people of Santa Cruz la Laguna and surrounding village through support for education and sustainable economic empowerment. Their main activities/projects include: Education (support to public schools, early education, sexual and reproductive health education, youth leadership, higher education scholarships, professional development)
Economic Empowerment (Women’s empowerment and small business development, vocational training and two social enterprise businesses – artisan store and graduate run café)
SDGs: No poverty, quality education, gender equality, decent work and economic growth, reducing inequalities
Upon arrival to Guatemala City, the Associate will be introduced to the organization’s staff, Executive Director and Program Director, tour the office and discuss the project itinerary in more detail. During the project, he/she will visit several project sites, including: Jaibalito school (to photograph sexual and reproductive health classes); the associate will also visit the NGO’s women’s empowerment workshop, vocational courses (culinary, beading, etc.), and take staff photos. In the second week, the Associate will visit the Youth Leadership Conference in Solola, visit upper communities (Pajomel, Chuitzanchaj and Laguna Seca), and photograph women’s businesses selling at market day, a community football game, and café special events.
The images will be used for website, social media, donors, prints in our office and visitor center and on display for the community.
Storytelling - Must submit a minimum of one (1) original article, 800-1000 words upon completion of the project, to complement the images/footage of this assignment.
Proficient in photo-documentary/photojournalism
Experience using editing software (Photoshop, InDesign)
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
Adaptable to new and different situations, flexible and patient
Some knowledge of Spanish
