assignment DETAILS

After arriving in Puerto Maldonado, you will be introduced to the organization’s team and settle into your accommodation within a jungle clearing. Puerto Maldonado is a major city in southern Peru and known as the gateway to the Southern Amazon Jungle. The community partner’s rehabilitation center is located more than 10km from the city.

Many local species are threatened by the destruction of their habitat and wildlife trafficking, which seriously endangers the biodiversity of the Amazon ecosystems. At least 13 endangered species are found here, including the jaguar, giant otter, ocelot, harpy eagle, and giant armadillo.

Throughout the assignment, you will meet with the community parter’s Director and volunteers and travel to various project sites, including wildlife surveying, and rehabilitation efforts within the community partner’s base. You will have the opportunity to document the volunteer’s rehabilitation efforts and animal care, including feedings and other essential care. You will also photograph and interview volunteers and students who visit the center to learn about wildlife and conservation.

You will be responsible for:

- Capturing the natural surroundings of the wildlife and jungle area

- Photographing a day in the life of a volunteer -Portraits of the community partner’s staff and volunteers, and candid moments at work

- Documenting a day in the life of a schoolchild, and students learning about wildlife

- Creating a warm and safe environment for the community and practising special consideration when photographing wildlife.

your impact

Your images will be used to promote the organization’s visibility and attract new volunteers. The photos will be featured on the community partner’s website, social media, as well as promotional materials and crowdfunding campaigns.
