ABOUT THE ngo
Established in 2001, this NGO’s mission is to reduce the burden of HIV and increase life opportunity for children and youth in marginalized communities in South Africa. Their goals include: to equip and inspire youth to create sustainable social change for self and other; to reduce sexual vulnerability and risk-taking behavior, especially for young adolescent girls; to create connections to opportunity for marginalized youth.
The photographer will be introduced to the organization’s Director and team. He/she will be working on documenting stories of young people, which will help the organization build online campaigns that promote social justice and catalyze social change in line with the organization’s mission. The organization’s project site visits will include: meeting traditional healer, senior residents, pre-school teachers, as well as programs such as narrative therapy and expressional art activities. The images (and videos) will also be used for fundraising purposes, social media, web-based and traditional communications to motivate their existing supports, attract new supporters and create networks.
Experience in overseas development and travelling in developing nations

Proficient in photo-documentary/photojournalism (and videography)
Experience using editing software (Photoshop, InDesign)
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
Open to new experiences
Experience working with vulnerable populations
