ABOUT the community PARTNER

This Community Partner empowers and educates women and girls to reclaim their power in a conservative community. They are a on a mission to break the cycle of poverty and dependance by providing vocational training in their sewing centers. Through working in these sewing centers women learn valuable, marketable skills to earn a living on their own. They provide equity-seeking women with an education in English, Hindi, and math so that they can have the basic tools to start a business. They also support children from rural neighboring villages to access a quality education.

assignment DETAILS

This Assignment takes place in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, the second-largest city in Rajasthan. This city has a rich history, and like many others in India, has been largely impacted by British imperialism, which is part of a tapestry of reasons why women and girls have been subjugated not only based on gender, but also based on caste, religion and status. This Assignment will focus on the stories of a few of the women who take part in the program, and to document the various aspects of their lives. The best times of year to make the best of this impact is between October and March. During these times there are 2 big festivals (Diwali and Holi), which will may support visual impact.

Impact GOALS

The Community Partner’s wish is to be able to continue supporting cohorts of women and girls in their programming by using the images and stories to generate funding.
