ABOUT the community PARTNER

The goal of this Community Partner is to enhance the standards of living for LGBTQAI+ youth in Uganda. They provide activities, programs and services that empower community members, provide essential access to legal and justice resources, advocate for civil and human rights, and embrace, promote and support cultural diversity under human rights observation.

assignment DETAILS

This Assignment will take the selected Associate to the Community Partner’s various project sites in the Kampala region.You will get to know people who are creating safe spaces for LGBTQIA folks, sex education, sex workers, and counseling for community members. We are looking for 2-3 in-depth stories that bring to light the power of this community partner’s work. This story must be documented with care. This project will ideally take place during Ugandan Pride Month (August).

Desirable

  • Experience working with LGBTQIA communities or being from the LGBTQIA community.

  • Trauma-informed training.

  • Experience making images that do not reveal the identities of whom you are documenting.

Essential

  • Ability to exercise discretion when it comes to LGBTQIA visibility in a difficult socio-political climate (e.g. with social media posts, not identifying people in images if necessary) and to defer to Community Partner’s staff and exercise free and prior, informed consent with anyone being photographed.

  • Passion for LGBTQIA rights and education/experience working with equity-seeking groups.
