ABOUT THE PARTNER
This NGO has over 12 years of experience in the development of urban agriculture projects. Their objective is to use urban agriculture as an educational, productive and therapeutic tool to transform the relationship of the local urban community with their food and environment. They have transformed under-used urban spaces into lush, edible oases. Their engagement with the local community has enhanced the quality of urban life for those individuals and communities that have participated.
They have 5 permanent installations in Mexico City, some of which host learning activities for school children, tourists, and anyone else who wants to learn more about urban farming. Their gardens contain forest of edible plants, bio-intensive culture beds and examples of innovative ecologically friendly techniques. Spaces have been built with recycled materials and waste, further highlighting the environmental benefits to the community. They also create temporary exhibits where they transform unusual spaces (for example, old cars) into urban gardens to demonstrate that virtually anything can be converted into a community space where food can be cultivated.
