More than Photographers: PWB celebrates our top photographers of 2016/17

Every year, PWB staff vote on our favourite photographers and videographers in five areas. We are excited to present our award winners from 2016-17!

Sharpshooter Award: Brian Hodges

This award goes to the photographer whom we feel took the strongest images and went above and beyond to get them. Watching Brian work for East Bali Poverty Project is a treat, setting up studios wherever he goes. We observed how people would warm to Brian easily, eager to be photographed by him. He’s someone to watch!

Storyteller Award: Matt Stirn

This award is granted to the photographer we felt took the storytelling component of his assignment to the highest level. Matt went on assignment to Azuero Earth in Panama and delivered images that are not only captivating but tell a story clearly and with emotion.

Depth of Field Award: Mattie Simas

This award is given to the photographer who goes above and beyond in all areas—quality imagery, storytelling, embodying PWB ethics  and taking on the challenge of documenting survivors of human trafficking for HAART Kenya. She’s already won multiple awards for her project and continues to fight human trafficking by raising awareness.

Spirit Award: Anne Gattilia
